Daley Moving Testimonial

I mistakenly forgot to give a testimonial to Kevin LeMere at the meeting this morning. Kevin had 2 guys from Daley Moving and Storage come to our Peck Road office Friday morning, move a couple of items from there to our Kennedy Drive office, and then bring an item from there to Peck Road. This is the 3rd time using Daley, adn each time they have been very professional, curteous and timely. So, thanks again Kevin!

Wii Fit helps patients at physical therapy center

TORRINGTON — Video games and physical activity, a once unlikely combo for many, have seen major success at a local physical therapy center.

Maletta Pfeiffer & Associates has successfully integrated the Nintendo Wii and the active video games Wii Fit and Wii Sports as part of its rehabilitation services, company officials said.

For about six weeks, the clinic has employed the use of the video games for balance and extra activities beyond regular weight training, lifting or stationary bicycles, said Owner Dan Albanese. Already the use of Wii Fit has been implemented at other clinics since its release this past summer, he added.


"It’s worked wonderfully," Albanese said. "Patients love it and it’s something different than just coming in and doing the regular balance activities."

Wii Fit in particular incorporates many different exercises, Albanese said.

The video game utilizes a balance board that the player stands on to partake in a number of different activities including a tightrope walk, balance measuring and yoga exercises. The balance board is required to play the various games in Wii Fit which focus mostly on physical training and exercise.

"It’s very realistic in terms of using too much weight on (the balance board)," Albanese said. "For yoga, not only is it good for poses and balance, but for deep breath and helping to get a proper center of gravity."

The game allows for the players to track their progress, he said.

At the clinic, patients are also able to play Wii Sports, in particular a bowling game where the player simulates the actual motions of throwing a bowling ball down a lane.

Maletta Pfeiffer & Associates has 250 to 300 visits per week for physical therapy, Albanese said. The patients come for a wide array of needs ranging across ages, conditions, genders and particular therapeutic injuries.

The center currently has one Wii for the patients to play as part of their regular exercise activities, in between waiting to use other machines, Albanese said.

"The plan is to have one Wii at each office to start with," he said.

Welcome

As we near our 1st anniversary, I wanted to tell everyone how proud I am of how far we've come; the hurdles we have jumped and how positive I feel about our future together.

Building a business group is not an easy task. And just like any other start-up, we have faced and will continue to face challenges to continue our success and growth.

We must continually commit ourselves to improvement. Improvement in administrative, organizational, and financial issues. Of paramount importance is also how we communicate with each other, the group as a whole and to our business community. We must also be aware of any charity opportunities that we could provide a benefit.

With each new member must also come a renewed spirit of cooperation, understanding and open-mindedness to new ideas, all with the common goal of increased business for our member businesses.

We consider membership in LCBP to be a privilege, and it should also be highly profitable for all our members. Remember, it all starts with you. We are not a business group for someone to join so they can get leads for their business. To continue our success, members must be passionate about building their businesses by helping others. It requires the long-term dedication and commitment to be actively involved in promoting one another's businesses as well as our own. The adage "the more you give, the more you receive" has never been more true than with LCBP.

Keep in mind that although our meetings are confidential, this blog is in the public domain, and it should be our public voice to the business community. Feel free to "advertise" your products or services here. If you have a great new service or product that you are introducing, feel free to write about it.
